2010 Tappahannock & Colonial Beach

Darrel Dall, Martin Teltser, Nelson Freeze, Road Captain/EDB President Al Manfredonio

The trip began at University Mall in Fairfax, VA which is right across the street from George Mason University and we already felt the heat even at 10 in the morning, since it was 90 degrees. We rode south on 123 then got on I95 but didn't stay long due to heavy traffic. Damn all these out-of-state travelers taking over I-95!!! Anyway, took a detour at the Manassas/Dumfries exit and continued south on Route 1. Once we hit Route 218 traveling toward Tappahannock, we breezed thru the country roads and you could smell the aroma from green pastures, trees, animals, and of course the occasional road kill. Made a stop or two to take a leak and stretch out.

Once arriving in Tappahannock, we headed straight to Lowery's Seafood Restaurant, a traditional restaurant since 1938. While having lunch, we discussed the plans for Sturgis. The time is fast approaching. Don't you realize there is only 24 days left (as of July 17th) until DBA Bike Rally at Sturgis!!

Nelson and I toyed with the idea of going to Virginia Beach since it is only about 100 miles. Only to realize that we didn't bring any extra clothes nor a swimming trunk and toiletries.

Instead, we crossed over Rappahannock River and headed to Colonial Beach. Never saw so many golf carts - the residents use them to ride around the town. Parked our bikes and walked over to the beach. Boy, the water was so warm unlike Atlantic Ocean since Colonial Beach sits off Potomac River. To cool off, we had soft ice cream/milk shakes from Nancy's Ice Cream.

After Colonial Beach, at the intersection of Route 301 and 205, we parted ways and headed home. Nelson went north on 301, Darrel & Martin south on 301 (they wanted to use Routes 17 and 15 to avoid I-95) and I continued on 205 then Route 3 then I-95 North.

It was a great ride and everyone arrived home safely.

Live to breath, live to ride, too! See you guys at Sturgis!

Happy Riding,

Al
Road Captain
